The Programme

The role of the Equine Sports Coach has been recently developed into a much more structured framework within equestrian sport. Nowadays a successful equestrian coach has a much different role from the traditional riding instructor. Emphasis has changed from teaching the art of riding to coaching clients in all aspects of equestrianism.

Special Features

This two year (full-time) course covers major aspects of equine sports coaching. Equitation skills are embedded into the course to allow students to progress their riding skills and therefore impart a deeper knowledge and understanding to clients. Students will also have the opportunity to take British Horse Society qualifications alongside the academic course to enhance their vocational qualifications and career options. Opportunities exist for students to train for UK Coaching Certificate qualifications. Strong emphasis on Work-Based Learning exists within the programme.

Subject to a satisfactory performance and successful completion, students may progress onto the BSc (Hons) in Equine Sports Coaching. Graduates may wish to become a professional coach in a range of sporting disciplines or seek a career within the equine industry in a number of equine related careers.

Entry Requirements

Successful applicants are normally expected to have a minimum of 120 UCAS points at Advanced Level (60 at A2) or Level 3 Extended Diploma or Equivalent plus satisfactory reference plus other any specific criteria agreed at validation. Life experience will also be taken in to account when considering applications from mature students. In the interests of widening participation admissions tutors have discretion to admit applicants with lower qualifications if they can show that they are likely to be successful on the course and an admissions assessment may be used in certain circumstances.
