The Equine Science foundation degree provides a detailed overview of the scientific principles underpinning horse management and training. The course offers a series of integrated modules which are designed to combine practical competence with technical and scientific knowledge and awareness for a wide range of equine topics.

Special Features
Although not formally taught and assessed it is envisaged that students wishing to maintain and improve their equitation skills will make use of the extra riding sessions provided by the College. Equine Science students would also be encouraged to undertake British Horse Society examinations to complement the academic nature of the course. Extensive use of all equestrian facilities and scientific laboratories will be a distinct feature of this course.

Subject to a satisfactory performance and successful completion, students may progress onto the BSc (Hons) Equine Science. Students may wish to gain employment in many exciting positions in the industry working in nutrition, laboratory work, sales or lecturing.
Entry Requirements
Successful applicants are normally expected to have a minimum of 120 UCAS points at Advanced Level (60 at A2) or Level 3 Extended Diploma or Equivalent plus satisfactory reference plus other any specific criteria agreed at validation. Life experience will also be taken in to account when considering applications from mature students. In the interests of widening participation admissions tutors have discretion to admit applicants with lower qualifications if they can show that they are likely to be successful on the course and an admissions assessment may be used in certain circumstances.
