The Programme

These qualifications are essential for practicing teachers and trainers in all sectors of post school education and training. The awards are Standard Verification UK endorsed and Higher Education Academy accredited for those employed in the appropriate sectors.
 

What you study

The course is assessed through 150 hours of post-14 teacher practice, assignments, portfolio building, seminar presentations and observation of teaching practice.

As part of the course, you will be expected to complete a subject specialist module. This requires two days of attendance at the University in year two (two days at Easter). You will be informed of the exact dates during the first year of the course.

Special Features

These courses are for people who are currently teaching/training young people or adults. They are in-service courses which lead to a professional teaching qualification for teachers in the Lifelong Learning sector.

These courses provide a way for practicing teachers/trainers to expand and develop their teaching skills and abilities, reflect on current ideas about education and training and explore opportunities for further professional development.

These courses enable entry to the BA Education and Professional Development delivered at the College.
 

Entry requirements

You should normally be in paid employment, as a teacher or trainer, for a minimum of 150 hours (at least 75 hours in any one year) at a recognised training or education establishment. Voluntary teaching/training may be acceptable in some circumstances.

A minimum of 75 hours teaching practice per year in the subject area you wish to become qualified in. You are required to identify a work-based mentor who can guide you in your subject specialism.
 
NB - Employers in the Lifelong Learning sector will require their employees to have completed criminal record and health checks for suitability to teach. 

 

CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (Lifelong Learning)
A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in the subject area you wish to qualify as a teacher in (equivalent work experience including teaching experience may be considered).

PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (Lifelong Learning)
A UK bachelors degree in the subject are you teach.
