The Programme

This programme aims to develop the practical skills and techniques required to implement sports development and coaching and fitness activities, building on relevant underpinning and scientific knowledge. The programme also aims to stimulate academic and professional skills developed by the understanding of a complex body of knowledge, and analytical techniques and problem-solving skills that can be applied in many types of employment.

Special Features

This foundation degree aims to provide a programme that will equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to operate effectively within the sports coaching, development and fitness industry. Practical and vocational learning which is underpinned by theoretical and scientific principles. Opportunity is given to acquire specialist additional qualifications such as gym instructors qualification and national governing body coaching awards to maximise progression into employment.

People who take this course could go on to

Complete the BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching, Development and Fitness final year or be employed within the sport and fitness industry as coach, trainer, sports development officer, or fitness practitioner.

Entry Requirements

Successful applicants are normally expected to have a minimum of 120 UCAS points at Advanced Level (60 at A2) or Level 3 Extended Diploma or Equivalent plus satisfactory reference plus other any specific criteria agreed at validation. Life experience will also be taken in to account when considering applications from mature students. In the interests of widening participation admissions tutors have discretion to admit applicants with lower qualifications if they can show that they are likely to be successful on the course and an admissions assessment may be used in certain circumstances.
